Scandinavian Trends – DK 2018

What’s trending in Scandinavian homes?

Sun can be a scarce commodity in Scandinavia, and to be sure that we keep a stiff upper lip about the whole thing – we don’t measure how much sunshine in days – but see the measurement of hours as more positive measurement, so that said, we, here in DK, have about 1495 hours of sunshine a year (give or take a few irritating rain clouds and a couple of showers)!

With that in mind, we use a lot of our time inside – our homes to be precise, so that means that we can be a bit obsessive in creating the right environment to which we can relax in, and that’s what the Danes call “hygge” (a rough translation is a “cosy” atmosphere).

We love it and can’t get enough of it.
DIY-ing or buying it at the local store.
Indoors or outdoors.
It’s your choice!

Danes can now go so far as being able to buy this type of rugged and unpretentious furniture in their supermarkets.

Psst…you can also buy pallets in your local DIY store!

Rattan Furniture:

We love the old world style, and pep it up with some bright cushions or travel rugs.

Styles can differ from the more modern to old world style.
It doesn’t stop us from finally accepting that it isn’t just your grandma that has rattan in her home
– and now (like most things) even vintage rattan furniture has been given a new lease on life!

We love having our town up on the wall – this is the absolute confirmation that we have put down roots and are here to stay!

I got my poster of my town as a mother’s day gift, and I couldn’t be more happy with it.
It hangs in my hallway – place of honour.

– By Candlelight!

Candleholders:

We cannot get enough of “hygge” in this country, and with the dark nights approaching – we bring in the light by setting a candleholder or two….three or four (well as many as it takes to make that “cosy” atmosphere).
